Why AI Attributes?

The initiative starts with a practical question: what functional attributes contribute to increasingly autonomous, adaptive, and cognitively sophisticated artificial systems?

Large systems can make individual capabilities difficult to isolate. AI Attributes™ takes a modular approach: study individual functions, represent them transparently, build open datasets, expose interoperable APIs where implemented, invite expert review, and test combinations experimentally.

The purpose is to make smaller technical and scientific questions easier to ask, without assuming an answer to larger philosophical ones.

One initiative, focused projects

OpenSensation™ focuses on biological and artificial sensing. OpenEmotions™ focuses on evidence-aware representations of emotional states and their relationships. AI Attributes™ supplies the broader research framing and the vision for interoperability.

Projects retain their own scopes, release states, contribution processes, and licenses. Shared schemas and a connected knowledge graph are planned infrastructure directions.

What This Is Not

AI Attributes™ does not currently claim to:

  • Create conscious AI or prove machine sentience.
  • Reproduce human experience.
  • Define a complete theory of mind.
  • Provide clinical psychological models.
  • Provide safety-certified robotics data.
  • Determine moral status.

It is an open research framework and infrastructure initiative. A computational model of a function is not, by itself, evidence of subjective experience.

Open by default

The commitment is to clear definitions, inspectable evidence, documented uncertainty, and transparent disagreement. Open materials should be versioned and made reusable under explicit licenses.

The initiative welcomes contributions across disciplines. It does not present itself as a formal institution or claim university, lab, sponsor, or expert affiliations.
